A Forest in Lens: Chasing Photographic Distinctions

Hello fellow photography enthusiasts! It's been quite a journey since achieving the EFIAP qualification, and the itch for more challenges has resurfaced. My sights are now set on the Proficient PSA (PPSA) qualification, the next milestone in my photographic quest.

But what exactly is the PPSA, you ask? Let's dive into the details.

Understanding PPSA:

The Proficient PSA (PPSA) is a recognition within the Recognition of Photographic Achievement (ROPA) Awards of Distinction program by the Photographic Society of America (PSA). This program acknowledges individual PSA members' achievements in PSA-recognized international exhibitions. To qualify for PPSA, one needs an impressive 288 acceptances in international exhibitions.

Setting the Stage: A Forest Inspired Photo:

In the midst of this pursuit, I'm thrilled to share one of my recent photos that garnered two acceptances in the 'PID colour' category. This particular image was inspired by the hauntingly beautiful song, 'A Forest' by The Cure. The assignment was a delightful challenge from Fotogroep Tegenlicht, and it led to a captivating composition.

The image captures a dense, dark forest with a subtle, ethereal figure. To me, this spectral presence represents the elusive girl from the opening lines of 'A Forest':

"Come closer and see See into the trees Find the girl while you can Come closer and see See into the dark Just follow your eyes Just follow your eyes"

A Musical Muse: The Cure's 'A Forest':

Before delving into the details of the photo, let's appreciate the song that inspired it. 'A Forest' by The Cure is a masterpiece that exudes mystery and melancholy. The lyrics, shrouded in enigma, perfectly complement the atmospheric music. The repeating, almost hypnotic refrain adds a layer of suspense, much like the feeling one gets when lost in a forest.

Chasing Distinctions: The PPSA Journey:

As I embark on the quest for the PPSA qualification, this photo becomes more than a visual creation. It symbolizes the dedication, the inspiration drawn from art, and the pursuit of excellence in the world of photography.

Remember, it's not just about capturing images; it's about telling stories, eliciting emotions, and embracing the challenge of constant improvement.

Stay tuned for more updates on my journey towards photographic distinctions, and let's continue to find inspiration in the world around us.

Happy shooting!
